There are very few things at which I naturally excel: Bareback and English jumping, cooking, playing instruments, being a fiercely loyal friend, having a dry sense of humor, and anything with words. No one has yet to hire me to ride their horses, be their friend, tote my saxophone behind them, make wry observations, or cook all their meals. But I can earn a living sharing my love of literature and writing by teaching and editing. That’s exactly what I have done since 1991. Because of confidentiality clauses, I never discussed with anyone what projects I was working on—not even the other shoppers who thought I was a nutcase for doing a little dance in the book section every time I saw one of my clients’ books on display.
